I admire Jamie standing up for his beliefs.

I have mixed feelings over military bear skins; the tradition of wearing a bear skin hat goes back a long way, and while I think it looks fairly ridiculous, I'm conscious of how important a part history plays in the makeup of the Army and its individual regiments. It's history and tradition that make the armed forces professional armed forces - rather than thugs with guns.

I've seen statements to the press which say that as yet, there's no synthetic equivalent to bear skin, particularly for use in inclement weather, and that no bears are killed to produce hats - the hats are made from the pelts of bears that have been culled as a part of control procedures in the US. So on the one hand, I can see the argument that it maintains military traditions and makes use of some part of bears that have been killed anyway - but on the other hand, I'm not a fan of wearing fur in general; I think it's a practise that engenders cruelty towards animals, particularly those small mammals that are factory bred to produce fur.

Hey there Ed!!

I haven't been around much, in the fallout from the fires here, things have been really busy at work. A lot of my colleagues at work and many of my patients were badly affected.

Thanks for explaining all of the traditions re the bearskin hats. I can appreciate that. It would be nice if they could substitute the bear skin ffor something synthetic. I have been really affected by the loss of wildlife here lately, so I guess my instincts are to proect what we have lft whenever possible.

On a purely shallow note though, I was just glad to see Jamie, and his interviews are always great.

Hope that you are well and happy?

Wasn't last weeks BSG a shocker???
