catching things up
i went to columbia missouri to visit my best friend allie.
here's what happened:
1. the wheel fell off her family's minivan and rolled across the highway.
2. we drove through five states, stopping in nashville and metropolis, illinois. their newspaper is actually called the daily planet.
3. we saw the arcade fire play, which was brutal, they became our friends, they asked me to play with them in philly in january, we all went for lunch the next day.
4. we got drunk two nights at the movie theater, first time seeing "sideways", starring harvey pekar as my old boss from fantastic records, jeremy sarachan. we saw "end of the century", a documentary about the ramones.
5. we became friends with a couple of the guys from the movie theater/bar. chris is allie's next crush, i think, even though he's got those giant ironic glasses.
6. i rode the greyhound back across the states all night for 22 hours. my friends included 3 truckers, one indiana jones from the disneyworld ride, a woman who killed a man with cds, and a teenage runaway and a genuine lunatic who kept coughing in my hair. was wild. prettiest part was talking to jason on the phone and watching our bus rolling rolling past christmassy kentucky towns. i wonder if i will EVER get over that one, it just keeps on resurfacing itself, jeez.
7. talked to kimmy for a minute in the mcdonalds parking lot in mt. vernon illinois while a skinhead stood next to me staring with a hamburger in one hand and a cigarette in the other.
last night, jeff and i went for a coffee, was fun, very storming. we drove on this creepy lightning-lit road where some of our schoolmates have been killed. it was eerie. he is a good boy and the attraction is disintegrating unfortuntely, he's just too southern. he did tell me two interesting facts about himself, though: his schoolteacher mom was shot when she was our age. she was shot. weird. also, he has been to north pole, alaska. that is an actual place.
today, played for a wedding rehearsal, harp jobs all this weekend. just watched the latest episode of the real world. i cant wait to see what happens next week!! that looks like a wild episode. landon and shevonda?? willy gets arrested?? dumb sarah sleeps with a EUROPEAN boy? this will really stir things up! wow, nothings gonna be the same after next tuesday.
