yesterday, i went to chapel hill to visit a friend of mine, john mccusker. it took 4 hours to get there, since i was driving from asheville aka cashville (got 80 bucks for teaching two girls how to play the harp). i got to chapel hill, went to schoolkids and bought this newish devendra banhart, went to get a coffee alone, overheard millions of valley girl unc students. thats something, one of many, i miss about wien - when you go to a cafe, you can tune the annoying fuckers out, you can tune out every distracting conversation when it is not in your native-language. these people are more annoying when they are of your own stupid ponytailed tribe.
then, walked to carrboro to nice price books. melanie, kimmy, charisma, evan. you would love this bookstore, has a bunch of records, so many books, every subject, half-priced, overwhelming. yesterday one of the guys from fin fang foom was working there and eating one delicious-looking pineapple pizza.
after that, drove to johns place in durham. he lives with his girlfriend sarah and sarahs sister katie. their house is so lovely, with a huge attic, a "studio" for johns music stuff and sarah's paintings, they dont pay much and its filled with records and books, old neat furniture, a huge kitchen. sarah's art and sewing, mike (katies boyfriend visiting from nyc)'s cooking good foods sort of inspired me. i wanna get off this computer and sew up the hole in my jeans. i wanna make weird clothes, study german, write letters to you guys, cook some chili like mike made. mike tells me how cool philly is, am looking forward to that. i have to get in touch with otto before he goes on tour to talk about our house stuff.
we had a nice dinner, chili, sat around the table. id heard that sarah is a bitch, but i think i won her over, she is pretty talented even if a little bit arrogant, a bit rich-kiddish, both she and john, but i like her alright. we had wine, we went to see the melvins, which made me fall asleep but metalheads had some fists pumping in the air, bla bla. had to smoke on the new back porch of the cats cradle. bla bla. then the best part was when we went to lantern, the bar that belongs to mac's pretty wife, and the wallpaper was leather and there were lovely lanterns hanging, had a few whiskey sour's. sarah and mike had martinis, one with saki and cucumbers, another with olives pitted with almonds.
came home, listened to records, slept on the couch, could hear the dogs scratching around. woke up at noon, john and i went to cd alley, the best record store in the place. got the rachels music for egon schiele and a sea and cake on record along with the cd of john cale/brian eno project. how brilliant is that song "spinning away"??? beautiful. patrick put it on my goodbye mixtape and it reminds me of last nights in my bed in vienna, trying to physically and literally grab onto my apt, my place, being in europe, vienna, and things impossible to grab onto. nostalgic for being in the place where you are, missing the bed where you are sleeping.
listen to that song, its terrific
went to carrburrito and got some tacos, went to cafe driade and had a coffee in the woods, drove back to shelby.
tomorrow, going to asheville to visit my sister. want that !!! record, will get it tomorrow in thrashville.
love you, miss you
