[waitin' for it to end]

I mentioned a post of musical stylings, and I do not disappoint.

So, my recent revelation/obsession/discovery is indietronica and electroclash. Two separate genres, and pretty different at that, but equally as enjoyable. I knew I wanted to listen to more of it when I woke up with "Fuck The Pain Away" by Peaches in my head the other day. :p

I don't even know what it is that makes the music so fun to listen to. I think part of it is that it seems almost technical in a way, like there's a lot of thought that goes into it. Not to say that other music doesn't have a lot of thought put into it, because it certainly does.

Hmm, I don't know what else to say in general, so I'll talk about artists.

Well, I mentioned Peaches already, so I'll talk about her. What attracted me to her was her blatantly sexual songs (imagine that). She doesn't even sugarcoat it by using hip hop metaphors like candy shop or goodies; she just sings about sex. I mean, the first line of "Fuck The Pain Away" is "Sucking on my titties like you wanted me." Holy shit. She's not shy, that's for sure. And while it could be considered maybe crude, I still dig it. It's not something you hear everyday, and it's FUN. Who doesn't like to sing along with songs about sex? And she did a cover of "Sex (I'm A)" by Berlin that I must listen to.

On a similar electroclash note, I'm starting to listen to more Ladytron, Le Tigre (who are SO fun), Goldfrapp (omg, "Ooh La La" is so good), and The Knife. Good stuff, I tell you.

And then there's indietronica, which totally melds the greatness of indie song lyrics (ever notice how cute they are?) with electronics. Great stuff. I can't think of any one artist to talk about in detail, but some I LOVE would be: Casiotone for the Painfully Alone (come on, with a name like that, they HAVE to be great), Xiu Xiu (who totally have a song called "Hello From Eau Claire," which cracks me the fuck up b/c I freaking LIVE in Eau Claire :p, and omg, go read those fucking lyrics; I'm totally dead from some of them), The Books, Animal Collective, Deerhoof, TV on the Radio, The Fiery Furnaces . . . I could go on for awhile, seriously. There are SO MANY good indie bands out there, and yeah, that right there is the reason I love last.fm. Like, I just have Xiu Xiu's artist page up & all the similar artists are people I totally love. It's so great.

On a non-indietronica/electroclash note, I'm totally remembering when I listen to certain artists just why I love them so much. Like Morrissey. Alone or with The Smiths, he's just amazing. I was listening to "Panic" last night, and yeah, love it. "Hang the DJ, hang the DJ." Hahah, love you, Morrissey. And his songs are just so damn depressing, which makes them awesome, lol. I was just looking at the lyrics for "Everyday Is Like Sunday" and holy shit, man. You don't realize these things until you look at lyrics.

I also think PJ Harvey is a total goddess. She's so strange, and I love that. I mean, part of what makes her so great is that her life is just as weird as her music. I read somewhere that she was rumored to have been on a diet of strictly potatoes once. o_O And gah, whenever I think of her, I think of the lyrics for "Rid of Me", especially the part that goes "Lick my legs, I'm on fire, lick my legs, I'm desire." Oh, goddamn. That is GOOD. And you need to HEAR that shit to really get it. That's the thing with so many songs; you need to hear how the artist sings the words to really feel it fully. Gah. So good.

I think I'm about done, at least temporarily, but I gotta say, I just listened to Amos Lee for maybe the first time, surely the first time I was really paying attention, and WOW, that song was gorgeous. (It was "Arms of a Woman," for anyone who knows him.) And Jeff Buckley is on now. I like him, but he's not a super favorite or anything. Meh. But YAY, I am excited b/c I ripped some tracks from this sampler CD I bought onto my computer & now I have new Antony & the Johnsons! Oh, God, I love Antony SO MUCH. Plus Arcade Fire, Franz Ferdinand, The National, Josh Rouse, Devendra Banhart, and My Morning Jacket. (There are other songs on the album, but I only ripped ones by ppl I know & love already.) So excited. Yay. :)

Hell yeah, NIN. Good shit.

But I think I'm about done now. I'll go before I start rambling about something else. :p

the national, holy music tags, music, devendra banhart, goldfrapp, josh rouse, tv on the radio, nine inch nails, le tigre, peaches, the knife, amos lee, jeff buckley, franz ferdinand, animal collective, morrissey, casiotone for the painfully alone, the books, the smiths, pj harvey, the fiery furnaces, ramble, deerhoof, antony & the johnsons, my morning jacket, xiu xiu, the arcade fire, ladytron
