[is this a cure or is this a disease]

Mmm, yes, a music post. I've been meaning to make this since like Sunday, which is ridiculous that I haven't done it yet. :p I was just listening to a ton of random good music that day (as I do every day, but you know what I mean), and yeah, I felt like talking about certain ppl I'm currently digging or that I always will love. And I still feel like talking about them now.

First up, a female singer-songwriter whose style I'd compare to Dresden Dolls. Her name's Gabriela Kulka, and I was listening to a random station on last.fm (which is totally how I find out about almost any new artist) when her song "Jealousy" came on. I didn't know what to expect, since I had never heard her before, but then she started singing and I was just blown away. This song is intense and passionate and holy cow, it's good. Check her out.

Next, The Moldy Peaches. Ahahaha, what a great band. They're really kooky, which is something I love love love in a band, and the fact that they're considered "anti-folk" also kinda cracks me up. The song I was listening to that made me think about them was "Who's Got The Crack," which sounds like the perfect song for my fandom rambleswhich is just pure hilarity, but they have another song called "Steak For Chicken," wherein the chorus is, "Who mistook the steak for chicken/Who'm I gonna stick my dick in?/We're not those kids/Sitting on the couch." Come on now. You know I'm going to giggle like a little girl at that.

Jane Sieberry. I honestly don't remember what I was going to say about her. :/ This is why I should have made that post on Sunday, damnit. Well, her last.fm profile compares her to Tori & Sarah, & that was all I needed to listen to her. :p Damnit, I wish I could remember what I wanted to say.

Alright, to someone I've totally mentioned loving recently: Feist. Man, I can see why so many people love her. She has this almost spunky attitude about her songs, and they're really beautiful. I don't know which ones I love the most, but I do know that "Lonely Lonely" is a favorite. I feel like I haven't listened to enough of her to really make a judgment, but I'm really liking her at the moment. She feels a little like Cat Power to me, so maybe it's just that rubbing off on me. Hmm.

And that brings me to another girl like the two I just mentioned - Maria Taylor. The only song I REALLY know by her is "Song Beneath The Song," and that song is just good. I love the chorus of it. I'm really not sure how to describe her besides comparing her to the two gals I just mentioned (Feist & Cat Power, that is). She's got that kinda breathless feel going on, which is always fun.

And now for some indie music. First up, we have Beulah. Now, they have this song with the funnest title I've seen in awhile: "Popular Mechanics For Lovers." Can I state how much I love a fun title? Or just something with an interesting title? Because I so do. That will make something automatically appealing to me. And then the indie bands I end up listening to generally end up being either folk or twee, because I enjoy the lighter side of music.

Then, The Fiery Furnaces. Wow. Just another fun fun fun band. I really do love music that's a little bit fun, just to balance out all the intense stuff I listen to (which is A LOT of what I listen to). I was listening to "I Lost My Dog," and yeah, I guess that song kinda reminds me of The White Stripes in a way. I think I need to listen to more of them, btw. Just fun and light happy stuff.

Alright, an older fave now. Damien Rice. I just love him. I can't get over how good "Volcano" is. The message in that song is so clear, and he uses the metaphor so very well. I love that song to death. Just classic Damien. And that's not even talking about some of my favorite songs of his, like "Woman Like A Man" and "Moody Mooday." OMG.

That's all I had from the other night, but as I'm listening to music tonight, I'm finding more I want to mention.

Like a band I had never heard of before, but just came up on a random person's station, called Sodastream. Their sound can definitely be compared to Belle and Sebastian. Their last.fm profile said they're from Australia, and the song that came on was called "Blinky," and add that to the band's name and you have an interested person. :D I'm so open with music, it's incredible.

And then Patty Griffin came on & I was like, oh man. I so love her. Another one of those just great folk singers. I'm really into folk lately. And it was "Long Ride Home," which is a fantastic song.

Ooh, I also was on one of my neighbors' pages & someone had left a message on their shoutbox about an unsigned singer-songwriter, so of course I had to go check it out, b/c it's like, "You had me at dicks fuck assholes." Uh, shit, I meant, "You had me at singer-songwriter." :p Damn Team America references slipping in there. *shakes fist* Her name's Denise Morgan, and here's her last.fm page, which includes full-length songs. I started listening to "Bruises," saw she had a MySpace page & was like, oh yeah, you are being added as a friend. I could tell that she was GOOD. Just what I needed - more music to become obsessed with. :p

And I'm totally fucking listening to Lovehammers right now, and I haven't listened to those dudes in forever, and yes, totally one of the best rock bands I've ever heard in my life. And as far as live concerts, these guys kick all sorts of ass. Oh yes they do. Even when Marty's ass is hanging half out of his pants. I don't care. It's freaking MARTY CASEY. He's a freaking god. Come on now. Yeah, "Over and Out" was just on and goddamn, that song was making me headbang and shit. Good stuff, dudes. A nice change of pace from the lighter stuff and proof that I can really enjoy just about any type of music. :D

Franz Ferdinand! Hell yes. They're also super fun, but have enough rock in them to make me wanna rock out. I always wanna dance when "Do You Want To" comes on, lol. That song's so fun.

Right, I'm gonna end this while I'm still listening to Franz. :p
