Fans of Further Confusion, I want to take a moment to share with you the content of a message I sent to all of Further Confusion's staff and volunteers on October 17, 2012. For me this is the single most important guiding principle that I, as Chairman, expect of all staff and volunteers at Further Confusion.

I want to make sure that every attendee at Further Confusion knows that I take this very seriously. If you feel that you are being mistreated or abused by any of FC's staff or volunteers during your stay at with us this January find me or our roving Exec On Duty and tell us about it. We want to help and will respect your privacy in all matters brought to our attention.

Subject: The attitudes of Further Confusion's staff affects how our attendees have fun at our event.

Team,

This is the last of the Three Months Out Letters I’m sending today.

Further Confusion is a very special place for our attendees. They come here for a variety of personal reasons but ultimately they come to be with their friends, to have unique experiences, to be themselves, and to express themselves in a relatively safe environment free from judgment of the staff running Further Confusion. We are not here to pass judgement on our attendees (and fellow staff members) or to spoil the fun and unique experiences they have come to Further Confusion to enjoy unless that fun endangers other attendees or convention staff.

As staff we have a significant impact on how much our attendees enjoy the experience of being at Further Confusion; attendees will pick up on our moods, it will affect their experience. Our attitudes--how we act and what we say--affects the attitudes of our attendees and their decisions to make FC a must-do event in following years. If we’re having fun, our attendees will have fun and they’ll want to continue having fun at Further Confusion.

Even when everything seems like it is falling down around our ears every single one of us has the responsibility to remain professional and respectful with each other and with our attendees. If you have a problem and you need to vent or raise issue then do so but be mindful of the venue and the audience. I’d rather hear from you directly about a problem than to read about it on Twitter. You can always--ALWAYS--pull me aside and ask to talk through whatever is on your mind; I might not have time right then but I will make the time and we will have that conversation.

So with this in mind let’s march forward and make our attendees’ experience with the staff of Further Confusion 2013: The Furbidden Planet! the best of any Further Confusion to date!
