So, now that work seems to be relaxing a bit something else gotta pop up to say, "Yo chump, suck it!" In this case it's the 40-gallon water heater out in my garage. Well, I don't know so much that it's telling me to suck it so much as being old, tired, rusted and about ready to fail. it's been in the back of my mind for a while that it was going to need to be replaced but was never at the top of the stack. Until yesterday when I went to work and found it leaking. A lot.
The photo pretty much tells the whole store, it's simply rusted out from age. For all I know it's actually the water heater that was installed when my condo was built some thirty years ago. (But probably not, honestly.) It needs to be replaced sooner rather than later. So tomorrow a dude is coming out to the house to do just that.
Now while I love hot water I've never really trusted hot water heaters. When I was a kid they seemed like scary, dangerous and ominous things that lurked in closets waiting to strike. Seriously. Maybe it was watching news stories of hot water tanks bursting that would occasionally pop up on the evening news. Anyway, I don't like 'em. While it would be a fairly trivial matter to have the current 40-gallon tank heater replaced with a new one that solution bugs me. Why do I need a massive tank of scalding water sitting around my house, consuming gas to keep it hot 24x7. I mean, I don't need hot water when I'm not there, keeping hot water hot is just a waste of energy.
So for a bit more scratch I'm going tankless. Gets installed tomorrow. :/
