For some people it's a certain scent that brings them back to a certain place in their mind and memory. I can't say that I can think of a particular scent that brings me back in time, but there are definitely songs and places that can do it in a heartbeat.
And some places you've grown up with your whole life, done a million things there and yet there's just one memory that keeps coming back to you. Even coming back to Monroe from Ann Arbor certain sights can jog my memory, and I'm like, where did these thoughts come from? I wonder how many places you can really live in and give your heart to until you've eventually started living in places that mean nothing to you. I know when I move out of Ann Arbor, and when I come back, there are going to be boatloads of memories at every stoplight and corner. Good and bad memories, both, but I don't think the point is whether they are good or bad. Just memories so intense about what you used to do in your life and how much you've changed is enough for strong feelings.
And isn't it completely crazy how there are certain songs you attribute to events or people in your past or present life? It's like you hear a certain song and all of a sudden you're back in that moment, or you're seeing someone again that in your mind hasn't aged. I can't even listen to those few songs because they're just too full of crazy good and bad memories of my life.
Insane.
