Project365 2011: Day 320-329

Work has been interesting so far. Well, the clients that use the studio are anyway. When I first discovered the studio I found their rates quite steep, but apparently they really target photographers who know how to use the lights quite well and not just hobbyists O: For the past 2 weeks I've seen a few big name photographers and celebrities and how they work. Some were really good at directing their subjects. Others relied on the pegs they've brought and the lighting technician or the older interns set up the lights for the photographer. Today was also an interesting shoot where the model and stylist had a row, but I won't go into details XD. The boss wants us to focus on the photographers and how work with the subject, their lighting, and use of equipment. It's so we can pick up good (and even bad) habits.

We also had a talk with Sir Raimund Isaac. I have to say he's really good! He's funny, he plays with his photography, and best of all, his deduction skills are amazing! Ahaha so sorry about the Sherlock reference, but he says reading people's body language is essential when working in a shoot. You have to know how to work around egos, make the model comfortable, and be able to pitch your own artistic ideas. He also said that though he's not totally against photoshop, knowing how to work with light is the first and foremost thing you need when doing photography... which a lot of photographers don't seem to understand as he observed. I understand how he feels because personally I'm not a big fan of doing photomanips either, unless they are appropriate for the cause.

The highlights of his talk: 1.) Never underestimate the pink peso. 2.) Don't aim to be the top of the wave, aim to float. That way, you'll always be around the industry and learn more about your craft.

I do hope I learn how to do great lighting and be able to utilize what I can use in the studio. We're encouraged to do fun/non-profit/portfolio-building shoots, but it's really intimidating especially since the boss hangs out at the office now > o < But argh, I really can't think of feasible-themed shoots that don't cost too much and aren't too "high fashion/avant garde". I like taking pictures of people, but I want to explore other kinds of photography other than fashion.

Ah, btw: I PASSED THE ART STUDIES ADMISSION EXAMS! Yeah, I'm going back to the university soon XD... Though with my internship's erratic sched, I can hopefully accomplish the need forms asap ^^;
