Celebration report, part IV

Jun 01, 2007 16:20

Sunday: I’m losing steam here. Con exhaustion hits even when writing about it. Forging on …

In the morning I went to the Clone Wars panel (and special preview) in the theater where C-line worked. We had a bunch of Meet & Greets in the Fan Lounge. When my shift ended, I met Rich and Caroline in her theater, and caught the last episode of Pink Five. Sworn to secrecy, we were.

At 8:30, a group of us headed for the El Capitain theater in Hollywood for an 11:40 showing of Pirates. First we went to hand/footprint place; Luci asked me to take this photo of her:

And everyone loved this pose:

We waited outside on line for more than an hour - and it was chilly out. I was tired. The theater was very impressive looking (although I’m still not convinced any movie or movie theater is worth a $14 price tag). There was an organist, and we got showered with paper pirate coins.

The movie - I am the worst person to give an opinion. I couldn’t follow Pirates 2, and by 5 minutes into this movie, I was lost. After a while I decide to just close my eyes and rest. I may have dozed - the movie is so loud that I doubt I really slept - but I definitely missed large portions of it. My main reaction is that this movie was much too violent. How many die in just the first 10 minutes - several hundred? Since I missed the whole explanation of the curse, I thought the coda was a happy ending. And now I learn from Caitlin’s LJ that maybe it was. Whatever. Maybe I’ll get it from Netflix in a few months and watch it again. I loved the first Pirates movie, but I think they blew the sequels. Just my opinion.

Rich and Caroline got two hours of sleep before the cab to the airport came for them. I slept to 10:30, and moved into Chris’ room before heading over to the Convention Center for the last time.

Monday: My last shift was in the afternoon, and my first job was to transport Bonnie Priess and Ian Liston back to the autograph hall and return with three actresses who played Jedi in the movies. Bonnie is a doll - I chatted with her as we walked back - and Ian also seemed extremely nice. We had a second meet and greet, that was labor intensive.

When my shift ended, I went to the Archive to help dismantle. I left at 4:30 to watch the Clone War preview, and hear speeches from Steve and Mary (33,000! Celebration V? - please please please not on Memorial Day again. Because I know I can’t attend many Memorial Day cons since Rich’s 30th college reunion is Memorial Day in 2009, my 30th is Memorial Day 2010 and Caroline graduates Memorial Day 2011).

Next: Strangest shopping experience of my life. I’m eating dinner with 12 people at California Pizza Kitchen when Nancy calls to say that the store is giving stuff away, and what do I want. Try giving orders for 13 people over a cell phone in a crowded, noisy restaurant. It really isn’t fun. Not everyone got what they wanted, but Nancy was a doll for trying. And I can’t believe I missed an opportunity to get things free.

The so-called “Dead Dog Party” was too loud and there were no desserts. I didn’t stay long, hung out outside for a while, and ended up with a group in a pod before giving in to the need to sleep. I had to wake up at 4 a.m. the next morning to catch a 6 a.m. flight.

I'll have one more post, but that will come later.
