The ground before him erupted and the world began to crumble. A few yards away he spotted the Weasley girl in perfect position to be crushed under an avalanche of rubble.

“Accio!” he shouted, his voice inaudible among the turmoil.

She clung to him, then panicked when she saw him. “Let me go!” she shouted hysterically.

A low rumble, like thunder, announced the next approach of falling debris. It threatened them from directly overhead. Theodore raised his wand over them and cried, “Protego!”

Suddenly, she didn’t care who he was. She unleashed a timorous shriek as she latched onto him with such desperation that he could feel her fingernails piercing his skin. Theodore trembled with resolution to uphold his Shield Charm.

No sooner had the immediate threat ceased than they found themselves face to face with Potter, Weasley, and Granger; oddly enough followed by Draco and Goyle.

At the sight of his little sister in the Slytherin’s arms, Ron spat, “Let her go, you ruddy snake!”

Again, Theodore didn’t respond to the delusional accusations. He thrust the girl from himself and at Potter, who promptly wrapped his arms protectively around her. Theodore held his hand out toward Draco who, to Theodore's relief, seemed shaken yet unscathed. As Draco joined him, the Weasley boy further reproached him, “You should really take better care of your things,” motioning towards Draco. “You owe Harry double!”

“Shut up, Ronald!” Ginny screeched indignantly, and she murmured into Harry’s chest, “You’re even.”
