He remembers this, when all other memories fell away to the gaping mouth of Dementors and two decades of darkness and, now, death: happiness - not a feeling, a person. Lily, and he wore her memory on his shoulders, in his bones, a burden carried unbidden. In the whole world, nothing else mattered (certainly not his life) except that her sacrifice continued to exist.
The venom shoots its way across his veins, his vision fills with the emerald he had loved, needed, hated, and the road to death is a path strewn with star-petalled flowers, green grass and golden light.
