No, there is a difference in Mudblood and halfblood. That is discussed in this very book.
A mudblood is someone with no magical parents. A halfblood has 1 magical parent.
I will have to look for the exact spot later, but its in the place where Harry/Ron/Hermione are talking about how Voldemort recruits Death Eaters, and that he would be happy to take either Harry or Ron, because they arent mudblood. Then Ron jokes about how he is a blood traitor, and Harry jokes that they would be happy to take him if they weren so busy trying to kill him.
But basically, the point is that halfblood is not considered offensive, like mudblood. I think JKR has said several times that there are VERY few true purebloods left.
Well, Morfin would disagree of course. But I don't see Snape playing at anything, inluding bias, if it isn't to his advantage. I personally feel that insulting Lilly was very useful indeed for getting Potter Sr. into a good amount of trouble, as his records clearly demark.
Half of a Prince because his mother, Eileen, was a Prince. And his father. Tobis Snape, was a Muggle. So yes, that makes Severus a Half-Blood, as shocking as it is.
