whee! I'm back. the trip was very fun. skating on the canal was much harder than I thought it would be. (and I'm fat and not really in shape LOL) but it was grand nonetheless. Ottawa is a cool city, very chill. Quebec scares me because my french is not very good. I understand it a LOT better than I speak it and am thus intimidated hardcore by the thought of having to speak french!

So I'll leave y'all with this- out of a tour group of about 30 or so ppl (all of whom were Canadians but for a few folks from East Africa (random!)) I was the only one who knew and/or decided to volunteer the info that /"quelq'un" means 'someone" in French. weird man. Points for me!
THEN, I was told by a citizen of Ottawa (after he knew I was from NY) that my accent sounded like it was from the "Ottawa Valley". It made my day. LOL I wasn't trying to be a pretend Canadian, it just happened. So maybe hello_shadow is right,and I really DO live in Ottawa, I just don't know it. LMAO
