was born in 1968 in Detroit, Michigan. I have lived in Michigan my whole life. While I was growing up, pretty much all of my grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins have also lived in Michigan. I know that is kind of unusual these days.
Anyhow, I lived in the city of Detroit until I was 16. I went to Detroit Public Schools. Somehow, I managed to learn how to read. Apparently over 50% of the people educated in the Detroit Public School system never do master that skill.
When I was 16, my family moved to Ann Arbor. I spent my senior year in Ann Arbor Public Schools. I am still amazed at the difference between those two school systems. I am sure this will be no surprise to anyone but it turns out that schools in affluent communities are better than schools in the inner city. Go figure.
I spent my first two years of college going to a local community college. I chose to go there because my boyfriend lived in town and also because they gave me a scholarship. Then I went away to Lake Superior State University because it is a small school. I really wanted to go to Antioch college in Yellowsprings but couldnt afford it. I foolishly thought LSSU would be kind of like Antioch but it wasnt. My major was Psychology.
When I was done with school, I came back to Ann Arbor. My friend Michael hooked me up with a job at a short term residential crisis center for mentally ill adults. I was managing the place within a few years. It was a terribly challenging job. I got burned out after 8 years.
So I quit and found a different job doing tech support which was really a challenge because I didnt have a lot of technical skills when I was hired here. I told the person who interviewed me that I would quickly learn the technical skills but I already knew how to deal with crazy people in person so dealing with crazy people on the phone would be really easy. I guess that skill was something they wanted ;)
