The other night, a very, very dark night, we drove home from Marlboro, through the fog, stuck behind a slow out-of-stater with halogen headlights. This was the first time I'd ever been behind someone with halogen lights. I'm used to being on the receiving end of them, coming from some asshole who feels no need to turn off his brights so as not to blind the oncoming traffic. No, this time, I got to benefit from the pure, white goodness. The headlights on the Subaru suck, as anyone who's been in it at night knows. I turn the brights on and which I could turn the brights on. The normal headlights don't illuminate more than 100 ft. in front of me, so I generally don't turn my brights off ever. It's not like they make it past the hoods of the incoming traffic.
But the halogens. It was like driving into a sea of clarity. I could see waves of individual leaves at the sides of the sphere of light as we passed along. I gushed and crooned at those headlights for a full half hour, while Beau pretended not to be all that impressed. Bah. Someday. Someday I will have headlights like those. Bwahahaha.
