No matter the cost...

Few things bring me out of my LiveJournal retirement nowadays but as most of you will know, giant fucking robots is one of them.
MP-05 Masterpiece Megatron arrived this morning from Hong Kong, not bad to say he was only posted on Wednesday. Whereas Prime is square and chunky, Megatron is sleek and spindle-limbed, sort of like a giant silver Peter Crouch. I didnt realise he would be nearly twice as tall as Starscream, they look kind of stupid stood together.

As with all Transformers I buy, this lasted a good fifteen minutes before it broke. A small hook shaped tab - essential for holding the plating together in gun mode - snapped off as I was trying to force parts out. Luckily, I was able to superglue the tiny bit back on but its a part you have to be aware not to put too much stress on when changing him. The transformation, while very similar to the original toy is the most complicated of all the transformers I have ever handled. My first attempt with the instructions was about half an hour.
While he's big and awesome, he seems to lack the detail of Starscream and even Prime (who is pretty much a box on legs). Maybe they tried a little too hard to get him to look like his cartoon counterpart. His gun mode is accurate apart from one major detail: the fact that this thing is actually about twice the size of a real life walther P38. Its kind of like the Kit Kat chunky effect - you can run around with it and imagine that this is what it would be like if James Bond was a pixie.

And if youre thinking that that cannon looks too big for him to balance with - you'd be right. The bugger hardly stands up with it. His arm joints are good enough to take the weight of the cannon and he will stand up okay too but his body will kind of sag to one side like hes drunk. You can spread his legs slightly to lessen the effect but depending on what kind of surface he is on, he will slip over.
Megatron comes with a lightsabre and pistol that were featured in the movie and his energon swingy ball thing from the Sherman dam fight. He also comes with a little toy Kremzeek that is much better than the one you get with Atari and Autorooper. There is a red light in his cannon that serves little purpose.

So anyway, I officially declare my transformers collection complete. Mainly because theyre expensive and I have no room but also because I cannot be bothered to start buying the even newer versions of the same characters again when the movie comes out.

Next week on SCC: Star Destroyers.
