As a huge O/C shipper, I read shower and was instantly filled with dread, because well... in the same way that people can attempt an elevator MerDer fic and FAIL, so it has been with the shower. People either are just with the smut, or end up getting caught up in some kind of symbollism that doesn't work, because they don't take it far enough.

OH HO! Not here. And I mean that. Because it was all about some kind of intimate moment that far exceeds words (and so uses very few) when it comes down to it, and means nothing and everything at the same, you know? (Like here, Owen realised that what she wanted was sex, and something to distract her- what Owen needed was someone to reach out to him. It's all some kind of comfort, ultimately) Like, yeah, it's just sex, and it's all about pretend. So it could be a distance thing. But it's not because there's also something very tragic and vulnerable about it. So while she may be pretending to Owen, the reader is like "Aw, little Crissy." lmao.

Parts like: She thinks he’s going to kiss her now, and they’re actually going to do this here, quick and messy in the shower, except he doesn’t kiss her, instead moving his head to the crook of her neck, lips close to her ear so that he can whisper, “You really think this is going to help?” make me really really happy, because it's kind of hott and sad at the same time. Which is difficult to do but that you've done so well throughout this fic.

Yeah, you know shower sex can be overdone in general, much less for this pairing. It's...well it's a cliche. And I'm fairly sure I didn't do it justice either but they are hard, so I'm giving myself points for trying here, lol. But thank you; you really made me feel a lot better about this! To say I was worried about it earlier would be a huge freaking understatement -- I almost didn't post it.

It is a story about everything and nothing. Nothing is really accomplished, nothing really happens besides sex -- on the surface. And Cristina and Owen, in my experience, aren't big grand gesture surface people. There's something deeper there.
