This is hers.
---
She sees Edward Mars first in the mirror, while she puts on lipstick, fixes her hair. The first day of her trial is today.
Kate doesn’t flinch when she sees him; no never that.
(It’s not like it’s herself that she sees in the mirror anymore anyway)
---
After that he’s everywhere. Sitting in the back row of the courtroom, in the parking lot, at the grocery store, in her bedroom. He watches her with an intensity that freezes the blood in her veins but she’ll only stare back.
“You’re only in my head,” she says to an empty room.
He laughs, chides, “Katherine, Katherine.”
---
“I tried to help you.” This is after the guilt has seeped under her skin. This is when it’s become too hard to ignore, to stare right through, to forget. “Jack tried to save you.”
“Oh, you mean when we were crashing?” He asks. She keeps her eyes on the wall. “And your good doctor? Death by suffocation isn’t exactly in the Hippocratic Oath.”
There’s nothing left to say but, “I’m sorry.”
Edward only shakes his head. “Haven’t we had this conversation before? Don’t be. You got what you wanted.”
It’s just a higher cost than she expected.
---
The day she makes a deal, the day she narrowly escapes jail, gains her freedom for the most part, he’s in the back of the cab with her. She makes sure not to look anywhere but at the road ahead of them.
“Back to square one. You got your freedom, got your life back. No more running.” She swallows hard, knows what’s coming. “So what are you going to screw up now? Whose lives are you going to ruin now?”
Kate wishes she’d could say ‘no one’s’ with any level of certainty.

It’s not like it’s herself that she sees in the mirror anymore anyway This sentence is so much future Kate, it hurts. I'm still a little mad at the writers for making her so OOC...

Thank you so much for this hun. *kiss* ♥

And yeah, that was a little shot at her OOCness in Season 4.
I'm so glad you liked this! Thanks for prompting and reading!
(I'm working on your other request as well, fyi, so stay tuned)
