“A power outage. In an elevator. On Halloween.” She says it out loud to make sure she isn’t asleep or imagining things. “Seriously?”
Derek gives up playing with the buttons on the wall and instead leans back against it, looking at her in the dim emergency lighting. “Apparently.”
For her part she rests her forehead against the cool metal that surrounds her and lets out a deep breath. “We must not be living right.”
“It’ll probably be a few hours.” He informs her, but he doesn’t know that. It could be an hour, it could be all night. Please don’t let it be all night. “Might as well get comfortable.”
“It’s an elevator.” She pays special attention to that last word. Because it’s all sharp edges and hard cold walls and it’s dark and something is making this incessant noise above them and she doesn’t even want to know what that means. Meredith’s never exactly been scared of the dark but this is an entirely new ballgame.
Derek comes up from behind her, his arms wrapping around her waist, and he leans his chin against the top of her head. It still doesn’t make her feel safe, but it makes her feel better and that’s something. It makes this tolerable. “Well I’m sure we can find ways to pass the time.”
“Please do not say sex in an elevator is one of those ways.” She says, and she can feel him laugh against her hair. “Because I know I’ve been called kinky in the past but even I draw the line somewhere.”
“It’s not,” he promises, and he switches their positions as he brings them both down to the floor, sitting so that his back is against the wall and she’s between his legs, leaning against his chest. For the moment she’s okay. She’s good.
Something makes a semi-loud bang to their immediate right. She jumps, only succeeding in remaining quite due to biting her lip, and his hands press down on her forearms, holding her in place until she relaxes again.
This is far worse than any supposedly gripping horror movie than she’s ever seen.
And she is so not fine.
