Summary: Post 401 - A Change Is Gonna Come. George is pretty sure he's supposed to hate Lexie because she's Meredith's half-sister.
He likes her.
George is pretty sure he’s supposed to hate Lexie because she’s Meredith’s half-sister, and Meredith is definitely giving her the cold shoulder so maybe he should too, but for some reason that’s exactly what’s making him feel bad for her. Because his life? It absolutely sucks, but she’s not having a great month either and sometimes it helps to take solace in other people’s pain because it makes his own life seem better in comparison.
He needs that right now. He needs a friend who’s not making more problems for him by professing her love just as his marriage is falling apart and he needs someone to tell him that it’ll all be alright. She’s not making his life harder, she’s not damaging his marriage; she’s telling the other interns about him birthing babies and they wind up looking at him like he’s some sort of god and it gives him that same high as doing open heart surgery in an elevator solo.
She’s a lot like Meredith in that way, he thinks. She speaks in metaphors and she’s got emotional baggage but she watches the babies with him and she gives a good pep talk and if he hadn’t of already learned his lesson with Meredith he’d probably be attracted to that but he did and that ship has sailed. That doesn’t mean he’s going to shun her, which should be interesting when Meredith figures that out seeing as he’s her intern and she can make his life hell if she really wants. Not that he believes she would, but the threat is still there.
And when he thanks her at the end of their shift, when they’re the only two still in the locker room, she just smiles softly and tells him there’s nothing to thank her for and touches his shoulder on her way out the door, and he thinks maybe doing this again, knowing all that he knows now, it might not be as bad as he’d first thought.
