Raistlin didn't fidget, instead standing rigid as he waited his turn to put on the sorting hat. He watched his brother stare at it nervously as it was put on his head. Raistlin rolled his eyes as the hat screamed out, "Hufflepuff." Caramon seemed happy enough and ran off to the Hufflepuff table. Raistlin stepped up and sat down. Nothing showed on his face, though it was getting harder to control his excitement.
Once the hat was placed on his head he heard a voice. "Well, there is certainly a very good mind here, but what is this I see...It seems there isn't any choice. I don't like separating twins you know, but sometimes it cannot be helped." Raistlin wasn't sure who exactly who was talking but was only slightly startled when the hat called out, "Slytherin." Raistlin very calmly walked over to the table and was greeted by a blond boy who, it seemed, already had made friends. Well, they were probably more muscle than actual friends since they seemed mentally thicker than Caramon which was saying something, so he couldn't imagine their company to be engaging at all.
"I'm Draco Malfoy. This is Crabbe and Goyle." He gestured to the two other boys. Raistlin wasn't a fool, he wanted to say that he could certainly remember who they were since he had just seen them sorted, but instead he only nodded.
"Raistlin." He didn't mention his last name. There might be some shame there, because his mother wasn't exactly the favorite of her family even before marrying a muggle.
The other boy raised an eyebrow and seemed to be sizing him up. Probably trying to figure if it's worth even acknowledging him, wondering what I have to offer. This didn't bother him at all, in fact, he wouldn't have liked the other boy if he didn't do just that. "I'm not sure I recognize your last name, and my father knows everybody who is anybody."
"My mother's family is pureblood, that should be good enough." His look gave no room for any argument, but it was mostly bravado that he hoped would get his through this, after all he would need powerful friends. The other boy seemed to reach some decision and offered him a seat beside him. One thing down at least, Raistlin thought as he glanced over at his brother. Maybe this was fate's way of finally showing Caramon they belonged on different paths.
