The only potential concern here is that in Atonement, even though Briony is a stupid bitch and overall life ruiner, at the end of the day, she was just a naive 13 year-old girl. It may have subconsciously been motivated by her childhood crush on Robbie but I don't think she even realizes this until she's an adult. Kirk is a grown man and while situations can be misinterpreted, he seems to be motivated by something more sinister than just misunderstanding. That is to say, I think he'll have to do more than just write a book about them 50 years later to atone.
