Added Words Over the Weekend

Jun 18, 2012 08:35

Between a birthday party for one of Hunnybun's nephews and Father's Day dinner at my Dad's place, I still managed to add a few words this weekend. In fact, I'm proud of what I added. See, June and Oslo are taking a road trip, and Oslo likes music June doesn't. Since these stories takes place 50-60 years in the future, and I didn't want to offend readers, I wanted to invent a type of music that doesn't exist now, but could exist in the future. I think I nailed it, myself. Read and let me know if you agree. :) Standard disclaimers apply*, as usual.

None of June’s presets appealed, and Oslo went station by station until he found one he liked.

“Gunmetal?” June asked, appalled. “You? Like Gunmetal?”

“Yeah, so?” Oslo lounged back into his seat. Kippy bounced from the back seat, over his shoulder to sit on his lap.

June rolled her eyes and made a bet with herself just how long she could take redneck metal music. Could I make it ten minutes? she wondered.

The recorded announcer came on to introduce the next song. “Next up is Yersinia’s latest release ‘Rollin Lonely.’ Remember, you heard it first on Winchester ’49, the first and only Gunmetal station you’ll ever need.”

The song started with a long electric guitar scream with ¾ time drums behind it.  June fought the impulse to run the car off the road.

The Diesel’s racing (scream) I passed a way station

Way back down the road Hoo Ya!

I’m paying no heed  to the limit on speed

I just can’t take it slow

A headache exploded like fireworks between June’s eyes by the time the band got to the chorus.

Cause I’m rolllin loneeeeeely

I need you to hold meeeeeeee

The lead singer’s whine as he held the last note of each line made her teeth grind. Without conscious thought, her talent flipped the switch to the radio and turned it off.

“Hey! I caught that. What’d you do that for?” Oslo turned it back on.

Gaze on the road, June brought up her magic to chase the  headache away. “We have to listen to something else, unless you want me to run this car off the first cliff I find.” She flipped it back off.

heeheehee Gunmetal, a combo of metal music and country. Evil feels so good.
