I started playing hockey about 6 years ago. I picked up the game pretty fast and became fairly proficient at it. One thing, however, always confused me. Let us say that one of the opposing teams forwards went on a fast break because I was out of place on playing defence. I would skate as fast as I could to catch up to said forward until I couldn't skate any faster... And then I'd go faster still.
All while accelerating towards the boards they were becoming closer and closer. This bothered me at first, I didn't have the best stopping ability and I was afraid that I would not be able to stop in time.
As time went on this scenario repeated itself countless times, me on offense, me on defence, it didn't matter, I always skated faster. I was also able to stop in time; every time.
Now, with all the fluidity as moving water I skate down the ice, skating faster if the play permitted. But lately I feel as if either I will not be able to stop in time, or perhaps the boards will get closer...
I ALWAYS stop in time! Fuck the boards getting closer, I'm the one in charge here. The boards have no authority as to how I play the game. But lately... Lately the boards have been acting up.
Well tonight the God damn'd boards moved...
I'm giving up on 'hockey'. I'm done with it.
