If this week doesn't make me ill or kill me, I'll be amazed.

Monday: Class from 8 to 12, CWC from 4 to 10 (covering for Colin)
Tuesday: CWC from 10 to 7
Wednesday: Work from 8 to 2, CWC from 4 to 10
Thursday: Work from 8 to 2, CWC from 5 to 10
Friday: Class from 8 to 12, picking up Maddie in Harrisburg

45 hours. Three days of coming home just in time to go to bed. Oy!

At least this weekend was fun: worked at CWC on Friday (again, covering for Colin), got laundry done, went to a pig roast and the drive-in on Saturday, and hung around finishing my lab report until I had to go to CWC yesterday. And yesterday at CWC sucked, due to the fact that I had two racoons die while I was there (one of whom I was particularly fond of) and it was absolutely crazy. Luckily, one of the nicer adult volunteers (Leesa) stuck around two hours later than she was supposed to in order to help me out.

Colin more or less "took off" without getting anyone to cover for him. I didn't really mind working the extra shifts, but the real problem comes next weekend, when he's supposedly not going to be here, too. Of everyone working at CWC, the only two people who can cover weekend shifts for him are Katie and myself. Everyone else is either already working or can't work weekends. Katie works 40 hours during the week as it is, and covered his Saturday. I'm there usually more than I should be, too. This upcoming holiday weekend, the both of us have plans, and we won't be able to cover for him.

When talking to Robyn (she runs CWC), she was concerned she might have to close CWC (or at least stop taking new animals) due to the lack of help. I can't say I blame her: thus far we've lost two people (Debb already, and Sarah's leaving this week or next) that totaled 40 hours of labor. If Colin leaves or gets fired (although I think she'd have to be stupid to fire him) that's 60 hours lost. We're getting new volunteers, but only 7 or so and they're only going to be working 2 hours a week each, so that's only 14 hours. That just barely makes up for one intern leaving.

I'd be surprised if she actually closes down completely. I think what she should do is close for a week maybe (this week would be good!) and just stop taking new animals for this week only, except in cases of dire emergency. That way, this weekend is just maitenance, instead of insanity. Especially since with the holiday weekend, there's usually a large influx of animals due to everyone wandering about outside.

If she does close completely, though, and gets rid of all the interns, I can't say I'll necessarily miss it. That's 20+ more hours in my week, which I could use to work and pay more attention to my class. It's unlikely she'd actually get rid of us all, though. It's not like she's paying us in the first place.
