Despite being almost always (kinda sorta technically) single, I can't remember the last time I didn't have a love interest or wasn't in comatose recovery from the last love. I would think the same goes for most people.
I think you're right that most people are similar... However, I'm not sure it's healthy.
For me, it took a sabatical from love interests to figure out myself well enough to actually be able to be in a healthy relationship... but that's just me... ;P
