So, I saw Cat Power. And it was hilarious.

so first of all, the venue was beautiful.

The people watching was fabulous. It was like all of the hipsters and moms and middle aged people still in suits from work were all out seeing Cat Power.

and so were my buddies.

She started off with "the greatest".

and danced around a lot.

and then she'd clap after some of the songs... I guess for the band but probably for herself for getting through it. hahaha

and then she'd sit on the stage sometimes

and then she ran away for a while. the band just kept singing the chorus over and over and over and we were like "where the fuck did cat power go?" and then finally when she came back, she was in a different outfit (and still looked effing gorgeous) and played piano. when she sat down, she kept straightening out her outfit a lot and it made everyone laugh. it took her a while to start. (when she was in the other outfit, she was like this too. she even said "dont make fun of my arm-boobs." WTF?)

then she played guitar. "I love this strap. I never wear it (it was way too big), but I love it." She had played a whole song standing up with her thigh supporting the guitar and flexing her foot almost every beat. this woman is insaaaane.

The encore was "I don't blame you", which was also the only song that was on an album besides "the greatest". She played NOTHING from "what would the community think?"... I thought she would at least play more from "you are free"... She did, however, play "hit the road, jack", often inserting "Chan" into "Jack". It was really cute.

She has this really strange way of moving and dancing ("I'm sober. sober.") around like a little girl in a woman's body but her voice is totally in control and effortlessly in tune and perfect. From her music, she sounds like a really calm and collected person who just happens to have random nervous breakdowns, but really I'm so surprised she is that collected in her music. She was so erratic and almost even jumpy. Whenever she didn't have a line to sing, she was off dancing oddly (you kind of need a visual) and flexing her ankles and making her hands into a floppy bunny tail and hopping around and being a ballerina. The audience loved her even though she is a freak of nature. BECAUSE she is a freak of nature.

Anyway so that was all very entertaining but then when we got outside, I don't even know how to descibe it but I was so happy and I was singing in this showtunesy voice "I LOVE NEW YORK" and we were all gigging and looking at the lights and it was a beautiful night.

Hot damn, I love Cat Power. I can't wait to see more shows this summer.
