pool closing

Sep 09, 2020 00:36

I finished my laps (boy does it get chilly now, it starts cold, warms up and then I get goosebumps again by the end), said goodbye to all my swim friends whom I've known from our Night Owl lap swim in years past. And thanked the staff for everything., like Sally who was always at the door and greeted me warmly,. I always said "see you tomorrow" when I left and for some reason that helped me make sure I would be back the next day in my head. I'm going to miss her!
They were taking out the lane lines at 5:30 because the pool is being drained at 6:45. The teenage staff were throwing each other in the pool fully clothed. The fencing for the lines outside was being dismantled and the spots to stand on taken up from the floor.
and as I left I honestly shed a few tears. I"m glad we at least got August. What a dismal year it has been, but I am grateful for the pool.
It's happening right now. good bye pool. Hopefully next year will be better.
oh and I said "see you next year" to a pool goer as she walked to her car and she replied "Just ten months!!" which is kind of heartening to think about.
