I planned on making a journal entry before I retired tonight and in it I was going to tell all of you how clean the inside of my car is. I figured that some ppl would be interested in this info since I was going on and on about how I wanted to clean it and blah, blah, blah. Well...I am still making this entry...but I can't tell all of you that my car is clean. Sorry. All day I thought about cleaning it but I only went outside once today and that was to go pay my f'in seat belt ticket. In fact, I don't think I even looked outside after that. As far as tomorrow goes, Dook and I have most of our day planned. Our plans include an early therapy session and countless hours by the pool, so I might not be cleaning my car tomorrow either.
Moving on to the meat of this post.
I heard something interesting on the news tonight and I actually decided to follow up on it. Yeah, I did research that I didn't have to do. It's ok...take a deep breath. Anyway, it was all about Tom Monaghan and his new "Catholic City." Quick helpful facts: Tom Monaghan is the founder of Domino's pizza and it was started in our very own city of Ypsilanti, MI. Apparently Tom is a spiritual man. He built a college in Ypsi and he decided to move the college to Florida where he is erecting an entire city from scratch. The city will be called "Catholic City" and he will control the entire city. Oh yeah, read the excerpt below:
Ave Maria won’t be just a university, he continues. It will also be a new town, built from scratch, in which the wickedness of the world will be kept at bay. "We’ve already had about 3500 people inquire on our Web site about buying a home there - you know, they’re all Catholic," Monaghan says excitedly. "We’re going to control all the commercial real estate, so there’s not going to be any pornography sold in this town. We’re controlling the cable system. The pharmacies are not going to be able to sell condoms or dispense contraceptives." A private chapel will be located within walking distance of each home. At the stunning church in the center of town, Mass will be said hourly, seven days a week, from 6 a.m. on. "So," Monaghan concludes, with just a hint of understatement, "it’ll be a unique town."
My thoughts:
Am I the only one that thinks this is creepy? In a way this reminds me of that movie, "The Village." I mean, come on, a town that has a private chapel within walking distance on each home? That's a lot of chapels, man. I want to go on record now and say that the kids that grow up in this town are going to be fucked. Most of them will rebel and visit other cities for their night clubs and boos. Yeah, that was totally a "Footloose" reference. Anyway, isn't this a violation of rights somehow? I know that the ppl that decide to move there won't complain about not being able to watch pr0n or or buy condoms...but what about their kids. Kids at least have the right to buy condoms. I know that if they grow up not knowing that these "worldly" things that Tom wants to keep out don't exist they won't miss them. But you all know as well as I do that sooner or later the kids will realize that there is more out there than the set of "The Truman Show" that they are living in.
I saw a drawn out version of this town on the news and it looked like it was going to be massive. This makes me wonder how many ppl will be living in it. Not to mention that there will be a college on campus. Add the amount of kids that the college can house and the amount of ppl that the town will house and you will get a sum of a shitload of ppl. A shitload of ppl means that there will have to be a police station and a fire department. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Tom be able to control who works in these buildings.
Tom thinks he is so smart. He plans to control the cable system...what about the internet? He would have to have his own internet service and run it like a network and put blocks on everything. Could that even work? What about pop-ups and spam email. Some kid is going to get an email about Viagra or Penis enlargement and it's going to be all downhill from there.
Also, on the news, they interviewed a girl, who attends the college, who is extremely excited about the move to the new city. She was saying things like, "It's going to be nice to walk into a store and not have to worry about seeing things that are not God like." "It will be easier to study knowing that we are safe from the outside in our own, "Catholic City." Can someone say...Brainwashed?
In a nutshell, I would never move to this town.
I tried to find a picture of the new town and this was all I could find:
I'm not sure why that picture came up when I googled Tom and the city. Perhaps this will be the dress code for the contractors and builders. Hmm, I wonder if Kevin Smith has had a small influence on this man:
Give me your thoughts on this. Not just the KS influence...the whole shebang.
Disclaimer: I don't mean to come across as being a hater to God and christians. I just think this is way too creepy to be allowed.
