Everyone should be watching "Pushing Daisies" on ABC Wednesday nights. It is overly twee, much too whimsical, disgustingly cutesie, and unfathomable amazing. I love it so much. It's made by the guy who made Dead Like Me, which was pretty great (and I guess Wonderfalls, which I didn't watch), and it has a very Tim Burton/Amelie look and feel to it. It is both clever and charming, which is nice because they are two of the adjectives to which I'm most attracted.
On this week's episode, Kristin Chenoweth and Ellen Greene did an amazing sing-along to TMBG's "Birdhouse in Your Soul". It was just super. And the scene before set it up beautifully: they were talking about birds, and birdhouses, and souls, and I was just waiting for them to make the obvious BiYS reference, but they avoided it. And then they totally snuck it in at the last second before the commercial! Very well done. So I thought it was past, and then coming back from commercial they burst into song. So good.
Anyway, the show is wonderful despite that, and it really does deserve an hour of your week. I think you can even catch up on the old episodes for free on abc.com -- at least, I watched the first episode there after I missed it because I didn't know it had started.
