It helps pitchers to instinctively trust him, and it convinces Benny that Axel is a solid replacement for him when he graduates. The only concern is that Axel will "steal Randall" from Benny, but this never happens, as Randall only likes to work with Benny. Axel likes physics, much like former Slumberwood catcher Gage Wetterman, and he reminds some of the older pitchers on the team of their former batterymate and captain.
