The story of my name

Sep 10, 2004 12:26

...just in case you were curious.

I was thinking about the military and what it does to names.

It massacres them.

My first name is Frederick, but so is my dad's. This is why I go by Clark, my middle name.
Before I left for basic, I told my mother I was pretty sure I would become Fred, because of the military. She didn't understand why I couldn't go by Clark.

So people do call me Fred. I don't have much of a choice about correcting them, and I think it's kind of rude if I do. So call me Fred, and I won't answer, because that is my dad. When I don't answer, don't forget to yell at me for not answering to my name.

Last name, Staehle. Pronounced "Stale-ee." Looks like "Stale."

Some people call me Stale. I have a friend who calls my "Stales." I've gotten "Stall-Lay." "Stall." There's even an instructor at DINFOS that calls me "My doughnut is."

It's all a game.

Call me Ishmael.
