Unlike what feels the be the majority of the school, I'm actually enjoying having my dad around. I'll admit, I feel a little awkward wearing my Western robes while Dad wears his beautiful Eastern robes, but there's not much I can do about that.
Except to, you know, not wear the school uniform.
Showing Dad around is fun. He was impressed by the charm on the ceiling of the Great Hall that reflects the outside sky. We took a walk of the grounds outside the school (keeping well clear of the Whomping Willow) and spent some time simply enjoying the scenery. I told him about how the lake had merfolk in it, and he asked me if they were anything like the kappa in Japan. I told him the biggest difference, besides physical appearance (merfolk are a bit more human-looking than kappa; kappa are more like human-ish reptiles with shells), is that kappa are less antagonistic towards humans than merfolk. Not that kappa aren't dangerous, but they seem to be more curious about humans than merfolk.

I would say probably the thing I'm unhappiest about most is the way Dad would give those cool, unreadable-to-everyone-else-but-me looks to those whose parents are obviously Muggles. Dad was never anything but courteous and polite to them, but I could just tell he disapproves of them being in the school. Not the kids, but the parents, and only because the parents are Muggles and I know he dislikes the mingling of wizards and Muggles.
Maybe one day I'll understand just what it is about Muggles that he and Mom don't approve of. And Grandfather and Granduncle. Because for the life of me, I just don't get it. Is it just because they can't use magic? Where does that put people with wizarding blood, who can't use magic?
Or maybe I should write to Grandmother about it? She doesn't seem to share the rest of the family's anti-Muggle bias. She might have some insight. She is Dad's mother.
