I've really been fascinated with this cover of a Dolly Parton song. I always liked the original, even though the perspective of the song comes from such a place of helplessness. I do find it interesting that this verstion is being sung by a man... so many people equate the singer with the voice of the song nowadays that I find it quite refreshing. Music is (or can be) a form of storytelling... and you don't equate writing about female characters with being a female. (Well, some people do) so why should singing from that perspective be any different? Gay, Bi, or Straight, the singer is projecting the perspective that the song is written from, not their own.
Yet somehow, an attractive masculine voice singing about "please don't take my man" does something very pleasnat to me... so I guess I can understand some people not liking such songs because the sensuality of the voice of the singer (as opposed to the perspecive of the song) is something they just don't relate to.
There's lots of other ways this could be analyzed as well, I suppose, but whatever, I like it. I find other people reactions interesting.
