Donnie Darko: the truth revealed. Oops.

Mar 02, 2014 21:28

One of the things I do when I'm busy with work is sort of watch but mostly listen to a favorite film, and if I have it on DVD, I turn around and watch/listen again with the commentary. I just finished doing that with one of my all-time favorites, Donnie Darko director's cut.

Disillusionment follows... )

movies, introspection

I think this is where you just say "Death of the Author" and say that whatever you interpret as happening, is what is happening! :)

Doesn't that sound like a good idea?

It does sound like a good idea, though I think I'd rather go with "La la la I can't hear you!!!" to the author, rather than wish death up on him. ^^ I mean, I ignore canon all the time when it comes to reading or writing fanfic. I can do it with Donnie Darko, too! :P~~~~

Charita is totally Donnie's angel of judgement! Yeah. C:

I love/hate Director commentary for much the same reason! Sometimes they mess up your own interpretations with the truth of theirs. And you don't know whether that'll happen until you're already deep into it, LOL. I feel the same way about the occasional remark made by JKR over her Harry Potter series, you know? To me, the things she says are "wish I hadn't heard that" bits from her own, ongoing mental Director's cut.

Glad to hear I'm not the only some sometimes dismayed by Director commentary. :P Maybe someday JKR will imitate Hollywood and give us a remix of HP, with all her post-canon tweak mentions actually part of the story. That would be something! *hopes for a better ending for Snapey and Draco*
