fun(?) with flashbacks!

Skip Beat flashbacks are a force unto themselves. X_x
Oh, at first it wasn't bad. A panel here, two panels there. But today I finished one page in volume 9 that had panels from five, yes, FIVE different pages in vol 8. And Skip flashbacks are always covered by screen tone, which means I can't white out the Japanese original, I have to cut and paste the tone underneath and make sure to match the dot pattern. And if there's a big action FX in the flashback--forget pasting the already-created patchings. It never works, so I have to re-create them for the flashback scene.

Thank the manga gods I still have the photoshop versions of all my Skip files, and that I finally figured out the easiest way to finish. "All" I have to do is open the appropriate page and drag layers, rather than pull the book off the shelf/dig out the printout and painstakingly recreate everything. X_x The killer is that you can barely read half of the flashbacks b/c of the aforementioned tone background and how small the type and FX ends up. So almost all of the painstaking effort it takes to complete a fb scene goes to waste, but I have to do it all anyway. ><

Needless to say, Skip flashback pages are an automatic pink/PFH designation. Occasionally, very very rarely, one will end up an orange. But 90% of the time, straight to pink. Oog.

I've decided to somehow get myself a subscription to Hana to Yume, which is the Japanese manga magazine that Skip Beat appears in. >< I can't stand having to wait for the tankos to arrive--I must know what happens!! Plus, it will force me to practice my Japanese vocabulary. S2m has been a very lazy student lately...

I finished New title volume 1 today. ^^
Now I need to go back and make sure I saved final tiff-versions of all the pages, and that my snarky comments I often write for my printouts have been deleted. X_x Making fun comments on events/characters/the translation helps keep the stress level down. And it's amusing to invent insults for the characters I don't like *cough* Takumi *cough*. And provide commentary for scenes. As long as I remember to delete them before saving the final version, of course. I'm paranoid that I'll miss deleting one, but I can't stop myself from making them. They're simply too much fun to write!!

I did forget once, on Clay vol 8. I pointed out a translation error for myself and it ended up on the final version. Clay editor #2 ignored it, and I deleted it with much embarrassment when I was doing corrections and saw with horror that it was still there. And no, he didn't change his translation to the correct one, even with my helpful note pointing out his mistake. :P~~~~~ What do *I* know about translation?! I'm merely the letterer! I'm not even supposed to be able to read Japanese. Ttaku mo!

Anyway, Shoujo Editor is rather good with timely scripts, so I might have a day or two before the first half of New title vol 2 arrives. I need to download the raw pages, as well. Busy busy busy...
