Epilogue
She landed herself with a content noise and the Doctor spun around the control, trying to find out where she had taken him this time. The TARDIS monitor told him it's 2032 and that he's once again on Earth. It has been a while since he was here the last time, that Christmas evening with the Ponds. He's thinking of seeing them again, but how long have they been waiting this time? 2032... They must be over forty now, both of them. Another time then.
He takes a deep breath as he opens the police box's doors and smiles. America. He hadn't been here since, well, yes. Since they day he was supposed to die. This is a whole different part though. Having spent so much of his time on Earth in Great Britain, he had almost forgot just how wast the American continent was. This was as far from Utah's deserted prairie you could come. Tall, dark trees lined the road that lead up to a roughed house. It was the kind of building that so often featured in ghost stories. It was the kind of building the Doctor never stayed away from.
Closing the TARDIS, he started walking up the road. The only sounds were the gravel under his boots and distant bird song, but the house wasn't abandoned. The sleek black car that stood parked outside spoke against it. Despite its age, it seemed to be in prime condition, speaking that someone lived in the house.
The door opened and a young man, maybe twenty, exited. He looked around himself and soon the caught sight of the Doctor, his face cracking up in a smile. A smile was always nice and often meant less trouble. The question was why the person was smiling, but that was always nicer to find out than why someone was pointing a gun at your person.
“Hello there,” he said and gave a little wave at the approaching man. “Who might you be?”
The question takes the young man back. He halts his steps, tilting his head to the side ever so slightly. His eyes narrows a little and he checks the Doctor out head to toe. He seemed to pass the exam however as the man started to walk towards him again. He mumbled something which the Doctor couldn't quite make out.
“My name is Jeremy Winchester,” he answered as his smile slowly returned. “And then who are you?”
“Jeremy,” he nodded at the boy. “nice to meet you. I'm the Doctor.”
