Pooooooooooooooooost

Okay, so my Mom's been here and life has been Busy. More on that but some thoughts first:

Thing One I recently cut off all my dreads and shaved my head into a mohawk. Well, Tyler shaved it. Then we dyed it purple. I'd committed to at least one year with the dreads and it had been a good five months over that so I felt comfortable that I had stuck it out.

In the end, the scalp problems I had going in to the dreads were compounded by the maintenance schedule (washing only once a week) and the fact that I couldn't physically get at my scalp to treat it.

I had always thought that I couldn't fully shave my head because my scalp issues (dry red and flaky patches) would be highly visible but it worked out the other way around. Now that I can directly treat my scalp, the flaky itchy red patches have gone away. I can exfoliate my scalp whenever I want to and if my head feels a little itchy I just spot-treat it with some heavy moisturiser. 'Tis wondrous.

As far as looks go, I'm quite happy with it. Loads of random strangers feels compelled to compliment me and kids love it. I met a 3 year old at the Zoo the other day who told me "I think it's delightful!".

(Interrupt: There's a hot air balloon floating out over the city right now, what is it about them that's so pleasing?)

Thing Two Pride London 2010

Oh MAN...this was one of the best times I've ever had in my life.

I've been in over 40 parades in my life (baton, dance team) but never one like this. This was hands down the best parade ever. Our samba group led the parade amongst a horde of the loveliest freaks anywhere. People were friendly and happy and I couldn't stop smiling the whole way through, even when the bruises on my legs got really bad (the repinique (link) likes to bang against your thighs when walking).

We started the parade with only one caixa (the snare drum). Some others from another band were supposed to join us but got held up. We made it all the way down to where Oxford Street meets Regent Street and stopped at the junction for a bit. Then I look to my left and see three caixas being held above the crowd, bobbing up and down and making their way toward us. The cavalry had arrived! It was an awesome moment and re-energised us for the rest of the parade route.

After the parade we played a gig in Frith Street in Soho (video). I've never had that much fun playing. The crowd, the band, the mestres were all in great form. I was dancing and smiling the whole way through.

What struck me most about Pride was how happy everyone was. Here was a day where the lunatics could take over the asylum and it was celebrated. Everyone could be whoever or whatever they wanted and the happiness was palpable.

Okay, Pascale and Mayo are up and about so we're off for another day of awesomeness!
