Stuff and things

Sorry for the lack of updates, but I have been super busy lately studying, and I will be really busy the next few days preparing for next week.

But I have to make this entry, because the most amazing thing happened to me, well, I guess a week ago now.

I went with some Keeneland Hall buddies to see Built to Spill play in Louisville. The show itself was pretty good, maybe a bit jam-filled, but still great. However, I couldn't believe what happened before the show.

Sean King and I were on the way to the door, when we saw a couple guys standing sorta near the tour vans. They both look really familiar to me and then it hit me: they were Built to Spill's drummer Scott Plouf and bassist Brett Nelson. I was already freaking out. We went up to them and introduced ourselves, shaking their hands and saying how much we loved the band. They thanked us, but seemed uncomfortable, because, you know, what do you really say to that?

We walked off, still shaking our heads at amazing luck. But as we passed one of the tour vans, I noticed a figure with his head inside the door who had a bit of belly and shorts on in October. I didn't want to get my hopes up, but I thought it might be him. We hung out a little bit longer, and I saw him. DOUG MARTSCH walking to the door. We ran down to him, and I actually said.

"Hi, I'm John."

and he actually said,

"Hi, I'm Doug."

I told him how Built to Spill was my favorite band and he was my favorite guitar player. He thanked me politely, but, again, what do you say to that? We got a picture together, and I didn't know what to do with my arm. Do I put it around him? He's fucking DOUG MARTSCH. Thankfully, he had a backpack on, so I sorta put it around that. But I did brush his arm, and I totally thought, "OH MY GOD I'M TOUCHING DOUG MARTSCH'S ARM."

If I were a little kid with cancer, meeting Doug Martsch would have been my Make a Wish foundation thing.
It was amazing. A year ago, I never thought that I'd ever be able to see them play. Now I've seen them live twice, and I've met the entire band.

I went inside the club and visibly shook for about an hour. But I had a huge grin on my face for the entire show.
