In the quiet of sleep and the darkness of night
When your wishes and dreams help your soul to take flight
When you’re locked up and safe in a room with a view
But the curtains are shut and you only have you
The lights been turned off and as you close your eyes
You’re lulled into sleep by the comfort of lies
You’re running from monsters there’s no end in sight
You look around blindly but can’t find ‘the light’
The demons are gaining and there’s nowhere to hide
Run faster, but trip as you look behind
You wake at first bite; find dawn has just broke
You’re panting and sweating, try breathing and choke
The air is too stale but it’s too tiring to move
This can’t happen again but when you fight it you lose
Vow that next time it’s different, you’ll read before bed
Till you’re too tired to think and you’ll sleep like the dead
But the voice in your head knows that this just ain’t right
That the same thing will happen when you turn out the light…
