So my scholarship and life at the school I'm at is in jeopardy because of this one god-awful class with a senile old man as a teacher. an upperclassman instructed my friend and I to bring our complaints to the dean because he has had many other complaints about the teacher. Especially because this one class has put my entire education into question ( Read more... )

Well one thing to take into consideration on any level of education is tenure, this senile old man probibly has it and they can't do much. He also may make a great contribution at a professional research level. But I say by all means, go as high as you can, it takes a lot of courage and the odds are against you, but you're education at loyola is at sake. I would be pesssimistic as well, but its worth a shot. I did it in eighth grade with another student about a teacher that was pissing us off and somehow she did change. But I did it sophomore year with that crazy ass old oral comm teacher and the dean said he's heard it all before and he or no one can do anything about it.

But on BG, as least being here with people that received public education in various bumblefuck Iowa schools, we had it made there. You're gonna have shitty teachers, its evident in any profession, not everyone is good at thier job. As much as I hated Biama, I retained more from that class than in most other classes throughout my HS career. I didn;t study, read, or apply myself, but that uncompasionate, annoying woman somehow struck a chord with me, I learned to learn just to spite her.

I've reliezed that in my upper educational career thus far that my problem is with General Education classes. But that, like High Scholl classes aiming to teach for the test, is the nature of the beast. I'm trying to cope as well.

you wouldn't believe how much bg is changing next year. special ed teachers like my mom are team teaching in the mainstream now. all special ed kids are going to mainstream. soc, most electives, and anything enjoyable is going to be gone. they are adding a ton of ap classes. classes like auto, foods, and fashion are all teaching basic math 4 days a week- all for the stupid government tests. that isn't education anymore. these kids are going to be hurting in their future education.

i just feel like things are so fucked up and they need to be changed, but that's just it. they're so fucked up that it is so hard to change them. so then the action becomes inaction.

i am just really torn between extreme depression and cynicism and apathy.

can you come home soon so we can hang out? is breakers gone yet?

First....I really liked what bob said about the public education in various bumblefuck schools.

I had no idea BG was changing that much....can't even imagine how different my sister's education is going to be from my own. Reading all that made me really depressed too. I think both your parents are right in a sense - and truth be told, it's hard to expect much out of ANYTHING anymore - but try and see what you can accomplish, & best of luck.
