Jack really should have been paying more attention. And he really should have been more careful while trying to repair the fence. And he probably should have put his knife back into it's sheath when he'd finished it. However, he had been distracted and he was too busy thinking about red hair to focus on being careful, and he'd forgotten to put his knife away when he'd finished it. And now he had to run back to the house, holding his side where he'd fallen onto the knife, the red stain on his shirt growing.
