18 years and back again

So I was back at my parents house for a few days doing some work for them. Lacking a decent cd playing system, or any cd playing device at all for that matter, and having forgotten my ipod I was reduced to listening to the radio. It wouldn't be such a bad thing, after all it lets me know what new stuff is out, if only all the new stuff didn't suck so much. I've never been to fond of Linkin Park but their new stuff headlined by their song from Transformers 2, a fantastically bad movie I might add, has led me to despise them more than ever. As for the new shit, and I mean it literally, by Nickelback well suffice it to say I stand by my judgement of them as the worst band of all time. I also mean that literally.

There were, however, two items of interest I learned during these radio sessions. The first was that Pearl Jam is coming out with a new album in September. Kind of interesting given that its 18 years down to the exact month that the Grunge Movement was born ( Pearl Jams first album actually came out in August but it didn't really sell until Nirvana's Nevermind took off in September, and anyways I figure it's fucking close enough). Now as much as I loved Ten as well as all the respect I had for Verse and Vitalogy I still feel Pearl Jam has been downhill ever since the release of Yield in '97. Nonetheless I held onto a brief glimmer of hope until I heard their new single. Fucking awful, far worse than even their previously subpar releases. A thorough disappointment.
Second, and more welcome is that Alice in Chains is back. They've gotten a new lead singer what with Layne Staley having died back in 2002, god rest his heroin soaked soul. I have to say their new single sounds damned good and I look forward to their new album, also due out in September. Looks like it's a revival of Grunge, and maybe for a short time, not the same shitty music, god grant it so.
