A Real Live Update!

They weren't kidding when they said grad school was a job. It's summer vacation, but I've been up to the lab every day so far this summer from around 9-5. Oh well, at least I'm being productive and getting my thesis work done. Ugh, today we had to do perfusions and isolate the brains though, which was very long and involved lots of chemicals. I felt slightly lightheaded most of the day, and I smell like mouse brains and formaldehyde. Yummy.

Jack and I went to Las Vegas like... a month ago, and it was fun. But I don't know if I'll ever go back. I'm not easily offended, but there's something very skeezy about walking down the strip and everywhere you go there are people flicking these little cards of naked women at you. Very annoying. Also, our hotel had the worst customer service ever. The Howard Johnson we stayed at on the way there had better service. We booked and paid online, and when we got to the hotel, they said the only rooms that were non-smoking with a king bed had a strip view and cost $10 extra per night. We totally got taken advantaged of. If I thought we could get another room for a reasonable price and not have to pay cancellation fees at our hotel, I would have left. Also, one day housekeeping freaking forgot to close our door! We got back early evening, and our freaking door was open! Of course, when we went downstairs, there was no one at the desk that we could complain to. So, don't ever stay at Bill's Gamblin' Hall and Saloon, even though it got great reviews everywhere I read.

But, we went to a few shows which were amazing. We saw the Lion King, which was awesome... the costumes and singers are incredible and I highly recommend it. Also, we saw "O" by Cirque du Soleil, which was also awesome. It was based on water, and they had a stage that elevated to let water drain out when they didn't need it, and sunk down to fill with water when they wanted to do something crazy like get on a giant swing and/or trapeeze and swing really high then dive into the water with almost no splash.

We didn't really gamble much, but I had a lot of fun with the penny slots and betting 5 cents on the video poker machines. :)

Other than Vegas, my life has been pretty boring, pretty much just lab stuff. And wedding/bachelorette party/bridal shower stuff. Seems like everyone is getting married this month. And I'm trying to study for my oral exam, which I will need to pass in order to graduate this December. It will cover all courses I have taken in my masters program, as well as any general biology stuff that they decide they want to ask me. Woo.

Since my parents took their dogs back, it's been so nice and quiet around here. I loves it. I'm going to take advantage of the quiet and study. And by study, I mean play a video game.
