finally!
My parents finally sold their house!!! They are looking for a small rental house near their land where they want to build, so hopefully that means they will take their dogs back soon! Huzzaah!!!
Also, anyone want to get together this weekend? In particular, I have a Wii Lego Indiana Jones game that needs beating. :)
I will be starting my thesis project in about a month or so, which will continue for about 6 weeks. I'll be looking at how neurogenesis in the hippocampus (learning and memory center in the brain) of adult mice correlates to learning and memory. You'd think that the more neurons you have the better your learning and memory would be, but there hasn't been a clean study that has demonstrated that. Maybe new neurons in adults have no function at all. But if they do help in learning/memory, maybe this study could help to find cures for various dementias involved in neuron death, like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. All adult mammals have neuronal stem cells that proliferate and differentiate throughout their adult life. Your neuronal stem cells are undergoing neurogenesis as you read this. :) Hopefully we'll get good results.
The busiest week will be during my finals week. Joy. Also, I have to write a 10 page grant proposal due in April so I can get paid this summer. This summer I will be slicing and staining a bazillion mouse brains and analyzing the results. Hopefully the fall will be spent just writing my thesis, then I graduate in December. I can't believe I'm almost done... I'm glad though. This summer I will apply to PA school too. Exciting stuff... I hope I get everything done in time.
