so, as of sundown today, January the 31st, Facial Hair February 2006 has begun. This year looks pretty solid. Doesn't seem like any one new had joined in this year, so it's just the same as last year (Joe, Will, and I). I guess some people just can't handle the full force manliness of having a beard (or something that kinda resembles one) like we can. They make up excuses like "it itches" or "it looks bad" but we know the real reason- they have a vagina.

Speaking of vaginas, BC's conservative paper, the Observer, put out two simply stunning articles this month. The first one was about the Vagina Monologues and was entitled "The V----- Monologues: Shock Value or Moral Value." The title draws on the fact that the use of the term "vagina" is shocking and offensive, yet 2/3rds of the way through, the author (a woman no less) tries to back-peddle and say that it might also have a positive message.

"Let's be perfectly clear, I have not seen a production of "The V----- Monologues," as written by Eve Ensler" [This is the first sentence and yes, the dashes were in there]

"As a young heterosexual woman, an eager advocate for the independance and capability of women of every nationality, ethnicity, and sexual orienation, I was still shaken upon first hearing that the "v-word" was lighting up marquees across America."

"I feel violated; the intimacy of my sexuality, sensuality, and body was being shoved under the searing social microscope for millions of voyueristic eyes." [If she watches or enjoys Sex and the City, then I can official write this entire thing off as hypocritical garbage]

[She proposes the hypothetical idea of asking a male friend to come to the show with her] "'Gee, I'd love to hear about the female nether regions, but I promised the guys we'd watch the football game as well.' Interestingly enough, there are girls out there who would opt for the football game as well."

"Ms. Ensler [attacks real issues], blow by blow, simultaneously tearing apart social convention and revealing an uglier side of humans, to which remedial justice must be swiftly." [This passage not make sense or fit in with the ones preceeding it.]

The other was on abortion. From the title alone ("The American Holocaust"), you can see where this diatribe is headed. It's filled with trite pro-life rhetoric, nonsensical metaphors and out and out lies and false claims that are not backed up.

"Make no mistake about it- we are living in the midst of the American Holocaust and we among the survivors."

"Pro-slavery advocates said that they needed slaves out of economic necessity, and those who are pro-choice say poor single mothers can't afford to have the child."

"Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood, said outright that their goal was the extermination of the black population." [Notice how the thing was was said "outright" was not in quotes nor backed in anyway.]

"Virtually no abortions performered daily are on women who were raped or victims of incest."

"Hitler also said that certain people were no wanted and did not deserve life. As a result, he killed millions of Jews, homosexuals, political prisoners, and handicapped people. The US says a child does not deserve life simply because he or she may not be wanted and is still in the womb. The missing 1/3 of our generation is called to us- fight for life." [There she goes. She isn't even subtle about it anymore at that point. I heard a lot of pro-lifers in my time, but this one has to be the most devoid of logic and reason. It was stunning.]

Beliefs on either of these subjects aside, one has to step back and realize how completely and utterly devoid of logic, commonsense, and reason these people are if they consider it a good idea to submit these ideas to a public, college publication.
