What do you get when you mix 4,000 kids, thousands of flowers and plants, dedicated city rec staff and a 30 awesome americorps volunteers? Flower City Kids Day!
What a great day! Check out the new garden at Ontario Beach park, where primary school kids from Rochester planted TONS of flowers and vegetables. They started planting in small cups and containers in their classrooms and gathered at the beach today to plant a garden, enjoy a picnic and learn about flowers and recycling.
How cool is that? Seriously!
After teaching a two-year-old how to plant his first flower and walking away with a good pile dirt on my face, I'm not even tired. After spending a great deal of time working with teenagers with serious problems in an often hectic office environment, I found a day full of young children really eager to get dirty and have some fun really refreshing! :)
I'm totally loving my job and am psyched to be starting a second year in September. :)
