So there is much more to the story, but I'll keep it short and unfortunately un-sweet. I crashed my poor tercel and sold it to a junkyard for $25. With everything wrong with it, it honestly wasn't worth much more. I got another car for free from a good friend. (Another with 246,182 miles on it, that is.) Jumped through hoops gallore to pay off old parking tickets to switch plates/register it. The old "new" car had to have a LOT of work. (4 new tires, new brakes, brake pads, some other part i don't know the spelling of, oil leak fixed, new door handle on driver's side, window motor and likely more I can't think of past my frustration at the moment.) Lucikly my dad has worked at a dealership for years, gets discounts, and has good friends to do the work. SO it's not quite as expensive as it could be. So I finally got the car registered (AND INSPECTED!) today. And can you guess what happened????? Didn't even drive it around for a full day. Parked it in front of a store, returned after perhaps an hour, and the car wouldn't start. IT WOULDN'T START!!! $655 in old parking tickets, $70 in title and registration fees, $21 inspection fee, towing fee to get it in the shop, god-knows-how-much-since-the-work-isn't-done-yet-but-a-whole-fucking-lot in work & parts for the car, and a few hours on the road and it STOPS WORKING!
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
SO I called AAA, had to have the car towed to the shop again tonight (since jumping it of course didn't work!), payed another $30 to get it towed in, another $8 tip to semi-jerky guy who towed it while laughing at me, and god-only-knows-how-much-more-needs-to-get-done!!!
Now if we had known this much was going to be wrong with the car, the free car wouldn't have seemed so nice. Fuck. I called my dad tonight and he's extremely angry. I feel so awful for continuously bugging him. He's furious that his friends inspected it hours before it stopped.
I guess at minimum it will need a new starter, and perhaps a battery. I don't know.
The car was also leaking a ton of oil when put up on the flatbed tonight. I thought they fixed the oil last week. Shit.
With all of the parts & money put into fixing the car this much, there's no turning back to get a different car on the road.
Denise has been driving me everywhere for the past couple of weeks. I feel awful. Now I still don't have a car, and jobs to get to in order to keep paying for all of this.
I'm supposed to be starting a job this week which requires reliable transportation throughout the day. I don't want to lose the job since I was so excited about it.
To top it off, the nice mechanic who has been working on the car just left for a week-long vacation. I don't know what additional parts need to be ordered, or when he will be able to continue. I just know I'm broke, exhausted, annoyed, and SOL.
