Sunday, March 14: Today John told Jack he was riding in on the dingy in the morning with us, and we would see him again at dinner time for the ride back to the boat, and that he was to do his own thing that day, and not follow us around and make us miserable. He started babbling on about taking a tour, and asked if John wanted to come, and john had to repeat himself that he wanted nothing to do with jack today. Other than going to the intarnet cafe, I basically hung out in the bar and drank all day.
I met a great bunch of people my own age, and drank with them. One guy was on a converted Alaskan purse seiner, converted to a trawler, and another guy and a girl were on a new Defever 44 trawler. The lot of them self titled themselves "Trawler Trash", as they were living on something that amounted to not much more than a giant floating motor home.
Getting back to the fishing trawler - i had been admiring the boat from afar for 2 days now, as it was obvious it was a wood fishing boat, converted to a stunning yacht, but it kept all the beautiful lines of the original boat. The family, british but living in Jamaica, bought the boat in canada, and spent over a year converting it to a yacht, all by themselves. When I got a tour of the boat, it was obvious that they did work that would rival the best of any boat yard. The boat was still "in-progress" (as all boats are really), but fully functional. Many pictures to come.
The last few days have really been a blur. We moved the boat off anchorage on monday, and we rafted up next to this gigantic million dollar catamaran sailboat..The owner was just this cool guy that just wanted to help out - as there was no slips available because of poor weather (big seas, moderate wind), and our engine needed working. I ended up partying with the guy many times, and with the trawler trash as well... The last of which ended about 4 hours ago. We stayed up all night drinking on this guys yacht, and it ended in us drinking all his chivas regal, and all of his scotch, 12, 18, and 21 year old. The guy was a total Mi Casa Su Casa type of guy...and his boat was gigantic and a great party boat. That, and he had air conditioning (one of 2 generators runs around the clock) and satellite TV - not just any satellite TV, but geosyncronous TV. He can watch CNN in 15 foot seas.
Best. Sailboat. Ever.
So anyway I stumbled off his boat at about 5 am, and caught the cab at 6am to the airport. And here I sit in an internet cafe because my plane is 5 hours late. Yippy.
